What kind of media institution might distribute your product and why?
The genre of our film is thriller. Thriller films tend to create a high level of anticipation, uncertainty, surprise and terror. Thriller films also usually focus on the unstable emotional states of the characters and the audience can usually relate in some way to the protagonist.
We decided that the distributer of our film should be Artificial Eye because it tends to deal with more complex, serious issues. Some examples of films they have distributed are quite similar to our film because of thisA film distributor is a company or individual responsible for the marketing of a film. The distributor may set the release date of a film and the method by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing. Examples of films distributed by Artificial Eye are Amateur, 1994, "a twisted metaphysical thriller that has been hailed as one of Hal Hartelys greatest works."
Artificial Eye has also distributed a film called What Richard Did, "The world is bright and everything seems possible, until in one summer night Richard does something that destroys it all and shatters the lives of people closest to him"
I think our film would receive a 15 certificate from the BBFC. This is because it does not involve frequent use of strong language, sexual activity or nudity. The issue dealt with may be too inappropriate for those under 15 due to the fact that the character is mentally unstable, which may eventually lead to dangerous behaviour such self harm or even drug abuse. This may impact the audience because if they are a lot older than 15 they may think it wont be as complex or as out there as an 18 certificate. However, a younger audience may be more eager to see it as it is classified as a thriller and they will be allowed to watch it.
The name of our production company is called "Black Cat Productions". The idea that black cats are known to be bad luck as this is a superstitious belief and stems in your mind and is more of a phycological thing.
A production company may specialise in producing their films and major production companies often distribute films from Independent Production Companies. The logo of our production company includes a black cat, with red font.
Our film will be released in a big multiplexed cinema, and afterwards be sold on DVD and blue ray.
